MAWOCC launches Intergenerational Leadership Academy – Girls of Color (ILA-GOC) Program in Springfield, MA – expanding its program to reach more high school girls of color in the Commonwealth.
Program now serves girls of color in both Worcester/Worcester County and Springfield.
Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition (MAWOCC) is proud to announce the launch of a new Springfield location for its Intergenerational Leadership Academy – Girls of Color (ILA- GOC) Program! The new location in Springfield, Massachusetts, builds on MAWOCC’s successful and established Worcester/Worcester County program. The program will be held at the Henry M. Thomas III Center at Springfield, located at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Free transportation will be provided.
ILA-GOC is a FREE, two-week leadership development program for high school girls of color in grades 9-12, offered during February and April school vacation weeks (February 16-20, 2026, and April 20-24, 2026). The program’s curriculum is based on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (S.T.E.A.M.) and is designed to empower participants with the skills, confidence, and support needed to become the next generation of women of color leaders.
In addition to the two-week intensive, participants receive year-long mentorship from women of color leaders, fostering personal growth, career exploration, and physical and mental well- being. In addition, participants who complete the program receive a stipend, and graduates are eligible for a college scholarship. The Academy empowers girls of color to challenge systemic inequities and become impactful changemakers in their communities.
