Worcester – Pay equity is an important economic issue that MAWOCC is focused on, and we are a proud member of the Wage Equity Now (WEN) Coalition. We commend the Labor and Workforce Development Committee for reporting the Francis Perkins Workplace Equity Act out of committee favorably. Passage of the bill will allow Massachusetts to continue as an economic leader by ensuring workplace environments where every worker is treated fairly, equitably, and can see a path of upward mobility. We believe this bill will help to address wage disparity which has disproportionately impacted women of color for far too long.

This bill reflects a genuine collaboration between the Wage Equity Now Coalition (A group of over 75 diverse, Massachusetts organizations) and the business community, who worked together to create legislation that would not only inspire workers to stay in Massachusetts, but also encourage workers elsewhere to come here and take their careers to the next level.

We have secured strong support from legislators in both the House and the Senate, and we look forward to working with the leadership in both chambers to secure passage this year! We urge our legislators to act now.
