Last Wednesday (June 18, 2025) was a truly special evening. AAPIC had the joy and honor of co-sponsoring MAWOCC’s 10th Annual Western Region Reception and Networking Event in Springfield, and we’re still feeling the energy and inspiration that filled the room.
MAWOCC, or the Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition, has long been a powerful force for advocacy, healing, and empowerment for women of color across the state. Through their leadership and commitment, they continue to bring people together in meaningful ways. This milestone event brought together so many incredible women who are doing the work, showing up for one another, and building the kind of change our communities deserve. One of the most powerful parts of the evening was hearing from Celia Johnston Blue, MAWOCC’s CEO, who spoke with strength and clarity about what it means to lead with purpose. We also heard from community leader Vira Cage, who offered heartfelt reflections that reminded us of the responsibilities we share to care for and uplift one another.
Western Massachusetts was beautifully represented through the presence of AAPIC leaders Vira Cage, Trinh Roblinski, Lena Phommatham, and WM Regional Coordinator Cha Lor. Their participation reflected a deep commitment to building lasting relationships and continuing the work of equity and justice in our region. Events like this remind us that we are not alone. They show us the power of connection, the value of celebration, and the importance of continuing to show up for our communities. We are deeply grateful to MAWOCC for creating this space and for all they do to support and uplift women of color across Massachusetts. We look forward to building on the relationships and inspiration that came from this special evening.
